Music, Madness & Upcoming Shows
Hello lovely people,
Well aware it’s been far too long since I properly checked in, and seeing as there are some really lovely gigs coming up, lots of songwriting happening behind the scenes, and generally quite a lot of music and mild chaos in my world… here we go!
First things first I want to say thank you.
Whether you’ve come to a gig recently, shared a post, bought a ticket, streamed a song, or just quietly followed along from afar, it genuinely does mean a lot. Independent music is built on people turning up, and it never ceases to amaze me that you guys care and help make the rooms we play in feel so warm and alive. I never take that for granted and am always chuffed to bits when you guys show your lovely faces!
Recent gigs
Me and those Orchestrators had a blast at The Library Venue, Sheffield back in March for only our second gig together this year. It was fab to have some of my family all the way from Australia in the audience, as well as my dad who is literally my biggest fan. Due to health problems, he’s only been watching from afar for years, but we managed to get him to this one and it felt special.
The songwriters round at The Lescar was a total blast, and it was great to get introduced to the madness that is Six String Smokeshack. Sharing a stage with the hugely talented Jody Davies has been on my list for ages, not to mention Tim Kavanagh and the hilarious Andy P Davison. Much joy and banter were had by all, and the audience were absolutely top notch!
Upcoming gigs
There are some cracking shows coming up over the next few months and I’d absolutely love to see some of your faces in the room (or a field).

What I’ve been up to
It’s been one of those crazy busy periods where life seems to involve equal parts songwriting, learning, teaching, project plans, songwriting, coffee, panic, laughter, and trying to remember where I’ve put my plectrum.
Working with The Orchestrators continues to be a joy and I honestly feel so lucky to play with such brilliant musicians and humans. We’ve been working on new songs, including some of my own, and generally leaning hard into the whole ‘feel-good Americana and rootsy night out’ thing. Our next gig is on Friday 19th June at The Lescar, and it’s gonna be a corker!
I’ve also been busy with my work running the Music Programme at Under the Stars, which continues to inspire me daily. There are some savagely exciting creative projects brewing there at the moment, including work on our very first original musical Sistarz, created with performers with learning disabilities and/or autism. It’s ambitious, joyful, moving and properly exciting, and it’s coming to The Crucible next July!
On the songwriting front, I’ve been reminded again recently just how much I love helping people find their voice. The women’s songwriting session I ran, and guitar workshop I was part of lately have honestly been magic. There’s something very special about a room full of women writing honestly, learning new things and making themselves heard.
I’d also like to give a huge shout out to Vera Van Heeringen for her amazing women’s guitar weekend workshops. HIGHLY recommended! www.guitarforwomen.com
A little reminder
If you’ve been meaning to come to a gig but keep saying ‘we really must do that sometime’…..this is your sign.
Take your pick from my upcoming shows here https://www.juliawaldronmusic.com/shows
Bring a mate. Bring your mum. Bring someone who needs cheering up. We’ll sing some songs, have a laugh, and forget the state of the world for a couple of hours.
More music and madness…..
I’ve finally given the website a bit of a refresh, which has been long overdue! There are some lovely new photographs on there by the brilliant Fonso Photography, updated gig info, music, videos and all the usual bits and bobs, so do go and have a nosey if you fancy it:

If you haven’t heard it yet, my song Meet Me at the Gate is still out there in the world doing its thing, and I’m very happy that my love letter to festivals (especially The Gate to Southwell Festival) in July, has got me another spot in the field for this year’s festival in July. I’ll be hanging out there all weekend, and the line-up is fabulous. Check it out https://www.gtsf.uk/
And yes… you have probably noticed on my socials …..there may also be some new music brewing quietly in the background.
Lastly...
Thank you for continuing to support me, live music, independent artists, grassroots venues and all the beautiful human connection that comes with them. I really couldn’t do it without you
Hope to see you somewhere out there soon.
Love & mischief,
Julia x
